Safe Haven Activations Help Heal

Communities Affected by Gun Violence

Does your faith community want to partner with communities most affected by gun violence?

CFCU works with The Office of Community Violence Solutions, City and County of Denver as it offers Safe Haven Activations. Safe Haven Activations are interfaith offerings in neighborhoods where recent gun violence has occurred. The purpose of these activations is to bring the community together, offer resources and support systems, and share a meal.  Activations are often held in Denver parks.

Leaders of activations are present to acknowledge violence that has occurred and make sure neighbors are aware so they can best protect themselves and their community. The resources that are available include:

  • gun locks

  • naloxone (life saving nasal spray that reverses opioid overdoses).

  • Information on Gang Rescue and Support Project (GRASP),

  • Denver Youth Program,

  • REACH Clinic (focused on holistic healing for those affected by community violence),

  • At-Risk Intervention and Mentoring (hospital support for those who have been injured by violence),

  • Colorado Crisis Services

  • Safe 2 Tell Colorado,

  • Extreme Risk Protection Orders (ERPOs)

Your faith community can get involved by providing food for Safe Haven Activations. Food that is typically requested includes hot dogs, hamburgers, buns, chips, drinks. These events are casual, but meaningful in the connections made!

CFCU is hoping to provide food and other support for at least one activation a month.  To find out how your congregation can get involved please contact Molly Brown (molly@centraldenver.com )

Watch for Your Congregational Annual Dues Notice

Please keep an eye out for the 2026 CFCU Annual Dues invoice, which we have begun to email to each of our Member Congregations individually.  The funds collected are currently CFCU’s primary source of financial support.  They provide you with The Digest, resources and information from our website, support events and research that is invaluable to our work to end gun violence.

The 2026 CFCU member congregation annual dues is $200 this year.   Payment of these ‘annual member dues’ has never been, nor will it ever be a requirement for engaging with CFCU. We recognize that for some congregations this payment may be a barrier and we are committed to inclusion!   So, we always encourage member congregations to pay what you can, when you can.

In fact, if you have gifts and skills in the fundraising arena, please consider volunteering to help CFCU increase the impact of our faith-fueled gun violence prevention efforts! For more information about supporting CFCU in this way, please contact Cheryl Fleetwood with the Outreach and Engagement Action Team at membership@cfcu-co.org.

Thank you VERY MUCH for your commitment to a future without gun violence!
